In order to sustain our work and to contribute to the growth of the creative sector, we offer a variety of services in the areas of cultural preservation, artist development, industry support, and music promotion. We work on both a consultancy and partnership basis and we’re always happy to discuss how THP can help you.
THP can digitize your old reel-to-reel tapes, vinyl records, and cassette tapes to ensure that they live on and are preserved for posterity in safe, high-quality digital format. We work with both private and public collections to ensure top quality transfer of analogue to digital content. We are experienced working with fragile media in difficult conditions with limited resources, and use professional-grade digital and analogue audio equipment. For digitization of reel-to-reel tapes, we use the Prism Sound Lyra audio interface, along with the Studer A67 and Tandberg TD 20A tape machines.
We can also assess your music collection and make physical preservation recommendations based on what we find. THP also embarks on field recordings. If there is a live music event, performer, or even interview that you would like for us to record professionally, let us know.
Our preservation services:
The Tanzania Heritage Project proudly supports and promotes East African artists within the region and abroad. Through our work with festivals and events in East Africa, such as Sauti za Busara, Karibu Festival, Sondeka Festival, Rift Valley Festival, DOADOA East Africa Performing Arts Market, we have worked with top emerging and established artists.
If you are an artist playing original, live music with a strong connection to cultural heritage, and you’re interested in developing your career, we can help. If you are a festival, venue, or event looking for the perfect group or artist to perform, we can help you book the right artist for your audience.
We have years of experience in the Tanzanian music industry and cultural sector, organizing events, seminars, workshops, training, performances, and festivals of various profiles and sizes. We can assist from the concept stage all the way to implementation and evaluation.
From time to time and depending on our availability, we provide local production and “fixing” services for film crews, journalists, and other visitors who are covering Tanzania’s music, arts, and culture scene.
Our major areas of expertise:
Tanzania Heritage Project organizes music tours and outings for people who want to explore and experience the richness and diversity of live Tanzanian music, from the classic rumba tunes of Zilipendwa to the electrified street sounds of Mchiriku. We organize music excursions that take you around the city of Dar es Salaam and its surrounding areas, Bagamoyo, and Zanzibar to enjoy eclectic performances by local music groups.
We offer a variety of tailored experiences, based on your needs and interests, ranging from 1-3 day tours, for 3-5 hours of music per day. The shows may be public or private, depending on the availability of artists and their scheduled events, and based on the guests’ request.
Some of the genres and types of music you can encounter with us are:
Zilipendwa / Dansi, Mchiriku, Baikoko, Bongo fleva, Modern taarab, Afro-fusion, Traditional / tribal, Spoken word / Ushairi, Gymnastics / Sarakasi, Traditional dance.
Our tours are flexible and fun, and suitable for individuals or groups. Please get in touch with us if you’re interested in booking a THP music experience!
